Woke up at a decent hour (even though I haven't been sleeping well because there are a bunch of bugs in the basement and I'm freaked out they're gonna attack me or crawl on me in my sleep). I got up, took a shower and went online to check for a message from Sylvia, but STILL NO RESPONSE!!!!
I went upstairs and ate some breakfast. We had planned to go buy my train ticket that morning, but we couldn't yet, so we just hung out. I went back to the computer and emailed a couple people trying to find other ways of getting a hold of Sylvia.
Later we had lunch. Little salmon steaks with grilled veggies. Very tasty. After lunch we went into town and went to the museum in Colmar, the Unterlinden Museum. It was very interesting. They had an exhibit by an American painter, Joe Downing. They also had a modern art section, and archeological section, a medieval section and a section of all things typical of a traditional home in Alsace. They had these really weird fancy standing fireplaces that connected to the wall, but stood away from it and were very decorated. Anne Marie said that some old homes in the Alsace area still had them. The museum was made out of an old convent so there were many rooms and halls with a lot to see. Eventually we saw everything (including giant wine barrels and grape presses from long ago. Although Anne Marie said that some wineries still use them).
We walked back through town and poked our heads in a few places (I was trying to look for a wine bottle opener, but was having no luck). We got back to the car and headed home.
When I got home I checked my email and there was A MESSAGE FROM SYLVIA!!!! I was very happy and relived that I had someone to pick me up and all was gonna be okay. I went upstairs and told Anne Marie and Christian the good news. They suggested we go ahead and go get my ticket right away. So we hoped back in the car and went to the train station. There I bought an extremely overpriced ticket, but oh well. At least now I've got the ticket and some one to pick me up so all is well.
We got back to the house and had tea time (even little yummy tea cookies). Then we just chilled some more. I responded to Sylvia's message, and read a bit of my book. Then we had dinner which was this very traditional food of Alsace. Its like a French/ German pizza. You start with a piece of flat dough, then there's a special creamy sauce, then you add cheese, another kind of cheese, grilled onions and sausage (although the second one we had was vegetarian, aka no sausage, and I liked that one better, but both were very tasty). Then there was a bit of salad and yogurt for dessert. I had framboise (raspberry) yogurt. Then Christian wanted ice cream so we all had some. I had a berry sherbet popsicle with cassis in it, very yummy!
After supper I gave them a little thank you gift made by mom. They seemed to really like it, so that's always nice. Then they called Julian and Hugo and had me talk to both of them. Silly grandparents are so funny, but it did give me one last chance to talk to both of them before I left the country. Then I packed and packed till I was all packed up. I was gonna take a shower, but it was kinda late and I had to be up early for the train the next day, so off to bed.
